The Saints Outside Hagiography online workshop has been an illuminating and generative space to explore the many ways people encounter and create holy figures and their lives. 

To further these discussions, we plan to host a panel series at the 2027 International Medieval Congress, co-sponsored by the Hagiography Society, to go deeper into some of our initial source explorations and make new connections between scholars interested in saints, hagiography, and their contexts.

We invite proposals for 15-20 minute conference papers on the broad theme of 'Saints Outside Hagiography', especially those that align with the IMC theme for 2027 of 'Communities'. 

Some potential areas of interest:

• Construction of saints by their communities in ways other than the writing of vitae

• Saints' liturgies and their uses

• Saints as mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion

• Material records of saints and sanctity

• Saints as part of assemblages and human/non-human networks

• Saints in chronicles and other history writing

• The role of medieval saints in modern academic and other communities

• The presence of saints in modern medievalisms or similar media

But feel free to propose anything related to the overall theme of understanding saints outside the standard hagiography form.

To propose a paper, you will need to include: 

• Paper title and 100 word abstract 

• Name and institutional affiliation if any

• Preferred presentation mode (in person or virtual)

• IMC index terms (included in the form)
